⚡ OpenAI has announced a new memory ability for ChatGPT

The memory will allow ChatGPT to remember things you discuss to make future chats more helpful. You’re in control of ChatGPT’s memory. You can explicitly tell it to remember something, ask it what it remembers, and tell it to forget. You can also turn it off entirely.

📎 For example, you're a university student, live in Madrid, have a sister and two dogs, like Italian food but not pizza, read fiction, love traveling, prefer brief GPT responses, etc.

💬 Why is this helpful? Remembering things you discuss across all chats saves you from repeating information and makes future conversations more personalized.

Custom GPTs will have their own distinct memory. Builders will have the option to enable memory for their GPTs. For example, the Books GPT helps you find your next read. With memory enabled, it remembers your preferences, such as favorite genres or top books, and tailors recommendations accordingly, without needing repeated inputs.

⚙️ How to manage memory?

✔️ Tell ChatGPT what to remember or forget;
✔️ Use "temporary chat" for one-time conversations without saving information;
✔️ Delete or add individual memories;
✔️ Turn off the option.

How to set it up?

The option is currently available to a small group of users (including free ones) only on the ChatGPT website. To enable memory, go to Settings > Personalization > Memory.
