📱 Celebrating 40 Years of TED!
This year marks TED’s 40th anniversary — but instead of looking back, TED organisators asked Sora to show what the next 40 years could look like.
ℹ️ The History of TED
In 1984, Richard Saul Wurman and Harry Marks held the first TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) conference, showcasing innovations such as the Apple Macintosh computer, the Sony compact disk, electronic books, and 3D graphics.
MIT professor and AI pioneer Marvin Minsky discussed the mechanisms of consciousness and how this knowledge could be used to develop more advanced AI systems.
In 1990, after a relaunch, TED became an annual event.
In 2001, Chris Anderson acquired TED. Anderson stood by the principles that made TED great: the inspired format, the breadth of content, and the commitment to seek out the most interesting people on Earth and let them communicate their passion.
In 2006, TED began publishing recordings of its talks for free. TED Talks have been viewed or listened to over 30 billion times.
In 2009, TED launched the TEDx franchise, allowing independent events in the TED format to be organized worldwide.
In the 2010s, new programs, including TED-Ed, were introduced to create educational videos for teachers and students.
Interesting facts:
📍 A parrot named Einstein once spoke at TED, using a vocabulary of about 200 words and sounds.
📍 Bill Gates released a jar full of mosquitos on the audience, saying, “Not only poor people should experience this.”
📍 The most popular video — Ken Robinson's talk on how schools kill creativity — has gathered over 100 million views.
