AI-Dermatologist: Appointments Are Available!
May is skin cancer awareness month dedicated to the importance of melanoma prevention and early detection.
According to the WHO, about one billion people have skin diseases, and about one-third are unaware of the problem. Dermatologists strongly recommend checkups at least once a year and, for those with fair skin, twice a year, as they are less protected against the sun and are more at risk of developing skin cancer.
👋 Thanks to AI, early diagnosis of skin problems is now widely available. Dutch startup Skinive allows you to do a quick skin screening at home. The AI model was trained on over 1.5 million images of various skin issues, which dermatologists and oncologists from different countries later verified.
⚙️ How Does It Work?
After downloading the app, you need to specify your age and skin type and take a photo of the area of concern using a built-in camera. After that, you instantly get a risk assessment of the problem (low, medium, high), a preliminary diagnosis, and recommendations for your case.
🤢 The AI dermatologist can consult on various issues, from suspicious moles and skin rashes to acne, dermatitis, and other skin problems.
💲 After registration, users get to check one skin problem for free with the option of one free diagnosis per week.
“Regular skin screenings should become a norm for all: AI helps to do it accurately and quickly.” Kirill Sokol, founder of Skinive
💪 Efficiency
The Skinive app is available in 12 languages and has already made more than 2.3 million tests, of which 14.5% ended up being medium or high risk. Almost 53,000 test results showed high cancer risks.
The service boasts more than 270,000 users in 50 countries. More than 15,000 dermatologists and therapists use the app as a second opinion. Lab tests have assessed the accuracy of AI skin diagnosis at 95%.
