🎙 How AI is Changing the Music Industry

While some musicians, such as Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, and R.E.M., have signed a petition against the usage of AI, others have already incorporated it into their work.

🎶 GRIMES. In 2020, the singer composed an AI lullaby for the generative music app Endel. Last summer, Grimes encouraged fans and musicians to collaborate on tracks using GrimesAI, her AI-processed voice. The revenue from these tracks would be divided evenly. Her producer compares voice cloning to fan fiction and fan-created artwork. In April this year, Grimes released a single called "Music 4 Machines," created with the help of AI.

🎶 DRAKE. The well-known hip-hop artist released a freestyle featuring AI-generated voices of Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg. Many questioned the track's validity, believing it was generated entirely by AI; however, Drake later confirmed authorship.

🎶 TAYLOR SWIFT. Following the leak of Taylor Swift's latest album, fans debated whether they were fortunate to hear the record before its release or if it was an AI-generated product. The leaked album turned out to be real and recorded "the old-fashioned way", but the episode revealed a new trend in the music industry: if an artist does not declare the use of AI, some may question it.
