📱 How AI Brings Sculptures to Life and Makes Them Fall in Love

A solo exhibition titled "Sensitive Sculptures" by Mexican artist Rodrigo Garrido has opened in Mexico City. It features white ceramic figures equipped with sensors and AI algorithms. These sculptures interact with their environment and visitors, and they can even fall in love.

💔 And the Heartbeats...

One of the works is called Product Recall. In its normal state, this sculpture writes poetry. But when it detects people nearby, it becomes anxious, stops writing, and utters phrases like, "I don't want to be a nuisance, but your closeness is a burden on my heart," and "I begged them to step away, but they wouldn't leave." The longer a person stands nearby, the faster its heart beats. The sculpture calms down only when left alone.

"While much of the AI presented by OpenAI, Microsoft, and other companies focuses on performance issues, art opens up other possibilities for us. We can give AI different goals, such as writing poetry and experiencing emotions. This allows us to analyze our own feelings and behaviors." Rodrigo Garrido, artist

😍 I Loved You, But I Forgot

Lovers is a paired sculpture with AI that explores love at first sight. These AIs are in love with each other, but a constant sense of insecurity overshadows their relationship. Their communication is entirely visual, occurring through the analysis of facial expressions captured by a camera. The screen displays the feelings of the AI couple: love, anger, and joy. Each day, when the museum opens, the memory of the Lovers is reset, and they start all over again.

🏅 This work was nominated for the Lumen Prize for art created using technology.

The minds of each "Sensitive Sculpture" were created using the Unity and Unreal Engine game engines.
