📱 Aurora, Microsoft's new AI-based tool, accurately and quickly predicts weather and air pollution levels on a global scale.
It is the first AI model to predict air conditions — a much more complex task than weather forecasting. The model was trained using millions of hours of data from six weather and climate models and 1.3 billion parameters.
The tool uses a lot of data, including wind speed, atmospheric pressure, temperature, and greenhouse gas concentrations.
📊 Aurora can predict the levels of six major air pollutants worldwide in less than a minute: carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, ozone, and particulate matter.
Aurora predicts air conditions five days ahead and weather conditions ten days ahead. The model can also anticipate the size and severity of extreme weather events such as hurricanes 😵💫
