🚸 Robotaxi to School
Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, is rolling out a new service called "Waymo Teen" that will allow teens to use its robotaxis. Parents can track every ride in real time.
💡 Where the Idea Comes From
Some parents in San Francisco are already discreetly hailing Waymo taxis for their kids, despite current rules requiring riders over 18 to hop in one of its robotaxis alone. These parents often circumvent the restrictions due to safety concerns with public transit and distrust of traditional taxi drivers.
"Waymo Teen" aims to legitimize this underground trend. This move aligns with a similar initiative from Uber. The "Uber for Teens" service allows passengers aged 13-17 to order rides and food under parental supervision.
💵 "Waymo Teen's" subscription will range from $150 to $250 per monthly 16 rides.
Waymo's driverless taxi service currently operates in cities like Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Austin.
