✝️ The Swiss Get to Chat to an AI-Generated Jesus

The visitors of St. Peter's Chapel, the Swiss city of Lucerne's oldest church, have recently got a chance to talk to an AI version of... Jesus Christ!

The digital twin of Christ was created by immersive technology specialists from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The developers trained the algorithms on the New Testament and multiple theological texts.

The AI-powered Christ speaks 100 languages. His avatar beams through a latticework screen behind a partition in the confessional.

In two months, more than 1,000 people, including tourists from different countries, have interacted with him.

Of the 230 people interviewed, about 150 perceived talking to AI Christ as a "spiritual experience." Some, in contrast, found his answers clichéd, repetitive and superficial.

“It was really an experiment. We wanted to see and understand how people react to an AI Jesus. What would they talk with him about? Would there be interest in talking to him? We’re probably pioneers in this,” explains a theologian of St. Peter's Chapel Marco Schmid.

At the same time, the project's creators insist that communication with the avatar of Christ is not a substitute for confession and advise visitors not to share private information with the algorithms.

What do you think about the idea of an AI Christ?

❤️ — Super, very progressive!
🎃 — This is far over the top!!!
