🏖 A Vacation from Decision-Making: A Journalist Fully Entrusted Her Life to AI
Journalist Kashmir Hill spent an entire week entrusting AI with her everyday decisions. Chatbots chose her new hairstyle and the color of her office walls, chatted with her kids, planned her leisure activities, and solved problems.
📝 A Responsible Assistant
The first task for her "AI curator" was creating a meal plan for the whole family and a weekly shopping list. Kashmir even sent it a photo of her shopping cart to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything.
"It didn't matter that I didn't know how to poach an egg, because ChatGPT's Advanced Voice Mode, a Her-like assistant, talked me through it," noted Kashmir.
💬 Family Advice
The AI-generated schedule included one-hour workouts, stretch breaks during work, and preparing elaborate meals three times a day. In the evenings, the artificial intelligence planned family games.
One evening after work, the assistant suggested that the journalist dress stylishly and apply "light and natural" makeup—her appearance even slightly surprised her husband.
ChatGPT also handled tricky questions. When the journalist asked how to deal with her visiting mother-in-law, the AI suggested accepting her help in cooking to free up time for rest, personal tasks, and bonding with her daughters.
"An AI-optimized week felt like a wellness retreat," said Kashmir.
💎 Is This Really a Good Idea?
While creating the schedule, the chatbots forgot to include time for basic tasks like taking a bath or brushing teeth. According to Kashmir, they seemed focused on turning her into an ambitious and highly productive person.
Each AI companion had its own personality: Microsoft's Copilot was overly energetic, while Google's Gemini only talked about work. Nevertheless, they were all eager to assist with any task. Only Claude from Anthropic pointed out that letting AI make decisions for humans wasn't a good idea and advised against relying on AI for important matters.
