📼 Mark Zuckerberg: "In the Future, the Internet Will Merge with the Physical World"
Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg appeared on Joe Rogan's podcast to discuss the failures of social media moderation policies, the future of augmented reality, and why he doesn't limit his daughter's time playing Minecraft.
Here's what Zuckerberg talked about:
⏩ On Censorship: Pressure from authorities and bias among fact-checkers within the company prompted Meta to rethink its moderation policies. Instead of relying on hired employees, the community will now handle fact-checking on the corporation's social platforms, similar to how it's done on X.
⏩ On Security: Zuckerberg emphasized that WhatsApp and Signal are the most secure messaging apps on the market. He also stated that Meta has no access to messages sent on WhatsApp.
⏩ On Artificial Intelligence: Zuckerberg predicts that this year, Meta or another company will create an AI capable of writing code at the level of a mid-tier programmer. He also noted that open-source projects in AI development will help prevent monopolization of the technology.
⏩ On the Digital World: The future lies in augmented reality, not smartphone screens. Meta is developing XR glasses that "10–20 years ago would have been considered supercomputers." Currently, their production cost is around $10,000, but the corporation hopes to make them affordable for everyone.
⏩ On Competition with Apple: Zuckerberg claimed that the $300 Meta Quest is better for active use and gaming compared to Apple's $3,500 Vision Pro. According to him, Apple's device is primarily good for watching videos.
⏩ On Parenting: Zuckerberg's daughter spends her mornings playing Minecraft and programming in Scratch. He doesn't see the need to strictly limit her screen time as long as she's engaging in creative activities.
