☀️ AI Warns: Global Warming No Longer Reversible

In 2024, Earth's average temperature climbed to more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels for the first time. The past two years have also been the hottest on record.

A 2°C rise in average temperatures is considered a dangerous point of no return regarding global warming. The AI system recently developed by Stanford University scientists shows that the probability of irreversible climate change is quite high.

Professor Elizabeth Barnes, study co-author, explains that the AI model was pre-trained on big data from climate model simulations, weather observations, archive greenhouse gas data, and several widely used scenarios for future greenhouse gas emissions.

What AI predicts:

☀️ There is a 50% chance that global warming will breach 2°C even if humanity reduces greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by the 2050s. That means that global warming that has already happened is almost irreversible.

☀️ Rising CO₂ emissions could lead to 3°C warming in South Asia, the Mediterranean, Central Europe, and sub-Saharan Africa by 2060, causing multiple cataclysms.

☀️ Reducing greenhouse gas emissions at an insufficient rate might still lead to these effects, but by 2100.

🆘 What to do?

Climate change can no longer be stopped, so in addition to reducing emissions, we need to learn to live with the new reality. "Without commensurate investments in adaptation, people and ecosystems will be exposed to climate conditions that are much more extreme than what they are currently prepared for," warns climate scientist Noah Diffenbaugh.
