📱 Spotify and ElevenLabs Are Transforming the Audiobook Industry with AI
Spotify has partnered with ElevenLabs, a leading AI voice technology company, to make audiobook creation faster and more accessible. Now, authors can convert their text into audiobooks in just a few clicks and publish it on Findaway Voices, Spotify's audiobook distribution platform.
To do this, authors upload their text to ElevenLabs, select a voice, and generate the final audio file. After a review process, the audiobook becomes available in Spotify's library. All AI-narrated books will be clearly labeled for listeners.
The free version of ElevenLabs allows for 10 minutes of speech synthesis per month, while a $99/month subscription provides 500 minutes—roughly the length of an average audiobook.
🔈 ElevenLabs is also launching its own platform within the Reader app, allowing authors to publish and monetize their audiobooks. The service currently pays $1.1 for each listen exceeding 11 minutes, but only for U.S.-based authors and English-language books. The company plans to expand this program in the future.
Additionally, ElevenLabs is developing a marketplace where authors can sell their audiobooks directly. Following a $180 million funding round, the company aims to provide AI narration and build a full ecosystem for independent authors.
