🇪🇪 Estonia Officially Introduces ChatGPT into Education System
Starting September 1, 2025, 20,000 high school students and 3,000 teachers in Estonia will get free access to ChatGPT. Over time, all schools and colleges in the country will start using the bot as part of the AI Leap program. The AI assistants will help teachers with planning, administrative tasks, and student support. Students will get personalized AI-powered tutors.
Students and teachers will have access to ChatGPT Edu, a special educational version of the bot based on GPT-4o with higher message limits than the free version. Students at Harvard, Oxford, London Business School, and many other top institutions already use this bot. However, Estonia is the first country in the world to introduce ChatGPT in education at the state level. The annual budget of the state program is 6.5 million euros.
According to OpenAI, every fourth resident in Estonia already uses ChatGPT. Estonians mainly use AI for studying, programming and working with texts.
"The education system cannot ignore or ban new technologies. Instead, schools must lead technology implementation by providing a supportive framework," says Linnar Viik, co-founder of the AI Leap program.
