🗣 Krisp's AI Removes Indian Accent
Krisp, an Armenian startup, has released an AI feature that "transforms" an Indian English accent into an American one. Krisp's technology works in real time and requires no prior training, unlike other firms that have utilized AI to adjust accents. The AI preserves the original voice but modifies it for better pronunciation ⤴️
According to Arto Minasyan, the company's co-founder, the concept stemmed from personal experience. Despite his excellent English skills, people frequently failed to understand him due to his accent. The team chose the Indian accent because there are a large number of native Indian speakers in the tech industry.
"This isn't about bias — it's simply a reality of communication. In fast-paced meetings, even small misunderstandings can slow down decisions, cause repetition, and reduce overall efficiency," explains Arto Minasyan.
Enterprises and call center agencies have already tested the feature. According to Krisp, AI-enhanced speech clarity has boosted sales conversion rates by 26.1% and increased revenue per book by 14.8%.
The Krisp desktop app offers accent conversion for 17 Indian dialects and is compatible with Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. The free plan offers 60 minutes per day, while unlimited use requires a $15/month subscription. The company plans to launch mobile apps and expand to other languages.
Twitter users speculate that scammers will love this feature.
