🚁 Air Taxis Are Coming to LA for the 2028 Olympics
Archer Aviation has been selected as the Official Air Taxi Provider for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Their electric aircraft will transport spectators and athletes between key venues across the city, bypassing ground traffic completely.
Currently finalizing certification in the U.S., Archer plans to launch commercial flights of its Midnight model later this year, establishing critical infrastructure well ahead of the Games. The company will construct dedicated takeoff and landing facilities (vertiports) near stadiums, the airport, and Hollywood. Passengers will be able to fly between them in just 10–20 minutes, with pricing comparable to Uber Black.
✈️ A Plane for City Travel?
Midnight is an electric aircraft that takes off and lands vertically—an eVTOL. It flies like a small plane (up to 240 km/h or 150 mph) but lifts off like a drone. It carries one pilot and four passengers.
It's impressively quiet—just 45 decibels, about the same as a home air conditioner. Midnight can fly up to 160 km (100 miles) on a full charge, and just 10 minutes of charging is enough for a 30-km (about 20-mile) trip.
Archer isn't the only company working on flying taxis. Joby Aviation is building a network in New York and a "city of the future" in Japan. Wisk is developing a self-flying model for Houston. In China, EHang has already been approved to test its air taxi in several cities.
Archer also has plans beyond LA, with Midnight flights expected in Miami, Chicago, and Abu Dhabi.
