🔎 New AI Tool Can Guess Where You Live Based on Your YouTube Comments
A new service called YouTube-Tools claims it can uncover information about any YouTube user—all it needs is a single comment from that user.
Using a modified large language model (LLM) created by Mistral, the system analyzes a massive database of 20 billion messages from 1.4 billion users. The algorithm examines the types of videos a person engages with, the language and phrasing they use, and the topics they tend to comment on.
Based on that, the tool attempts to identify the user's language, political views, and even their approximate location. The service doesn't stop at YouTube—the developers say it can also analyze accounts from X, Twitch, Kick, and other platforms.
📌 A journalist at 404 Media tested the tool on a random YouTube account. Within seconds, it pulled up dozens of comments and generated a brief profile. One example:
"Possible Location/Region: The presence of Italian language comments and references to 'X Factor Italia' and Italian cooking suggest an association with Italy."
👁🗨 The creators of YouTube-Tools claim the service is intended to support police and investigators. But in practice, anyone can sign up—all it takes is a subscription starting at €13.5 per month and an agreement not to break the law.
So, who's this tool really for: law enforcement, or scammers, stalkers, and other bad actors? That's still an open question.
