🌿 Explore Nature During Summer Break with iNaturalist

The iNaturalist app allows you to create digital collections of any biological species, study them, and share your observations with real scientists.

🍃 How iNaturalist Can Be Useful

You can photograph plants or animals and create collections either in the cloud or locally on your device. If you don't know the name of the species you've captured, you can ask other users for advice.

For real-time identification, Seek—a free add-on to iNaturalist—comes in handy. Using AI, it identifies the species in your camera frame. It works similarly to Google Lens but focuses specifically on flora and fauna. Seek provides information about the species' characteristics, origin, and distribution regions.

You can also add geotags to mark habitats and gather statistics. This can be especially useful for professional ecologists to track the decline of specific species, such as insects or birds in urban areas. Scientists not only participate in these volunteer research projects but also analyze user uploads.

iNaturalist also allows you to organize group projects: team up with other users in your area to explore nearby forests or parks together. For example, The Montana Moth Project has identified over 500 species.

➡️ You can try iNaturalist for free on Android and iOS.
