🎵 AI Music Evokes Stronger Emotions Than Human-Composed Music
Researchers discovered that AI-generated music elicits stronger emotional responses in people. The 88 participants watched the same videos but heard different music tracks. Some people listened to human-composed music, while others heard AI-generated music based on a simple prompt, and a third group heard AI music created with a more detailed prompt.
The human-composed tracks were selected from a database of emotional film soundtracks, while the AI music was generated using Stable Audio. Participants described the human-made music as familiar, while the AI tracks were perceived as more thrilling. These stronger emotional responses were backed by objective observations: listeners' pupils dilated and their blink rate increased while hearing the AI-generated music.
Interestingly, the music generated with a detailed AI prompt triggered the most intense reactions, along with increased skin conductance—an indicator of heightened cognitive load. Scientists suggest that listening to AI music requires more mental effort from the brain.
However, on average, participants didn't rate AI-composed music as more or less enjoyable than the human-made tunes.
