After tens of thousands of private AI chats briefly showed up in search results, one thing is clear: everything online leaves a trail. Here are privacy-first options that help keep your conversations out of public view.
1️⃣ Duck.ai: A free chat that anonymizes requests via DuckDuckGo's proxy, so providers don't see your IP; conversations aren't used for model training. Chat history is stored only locally and can be turned off.
2️⃣ Lumo: An AI assistant from Switzerland's Proton (the company behind Proton Mail and VPN). Chats are encrypted so even Proton can't read them; no logs are kept. Ghost mode deletes a session as soon as you close the tab. Registration is optional.
3️⃣ Leo: The built-in assistant in the Brave browser. Chats aren't stored on servers or used to train models. Conversation history is kept locally in the browser and can be cleared manually or disabled entirely.
4️⃣ Local clients: The most reliable way to stay anonymous. Your data never leaves your PC. You can run LLMs with open-source clients like Jan, GPT4All, Ollama, LM Studio.
