🕶 Meta Unveils Smart Glasses With Display

At the Meta Connect conference, Mark Zuckerberg introduced the new Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses. They have a small 600×600 pixel screen that shows images on the right lens, but no one else can see it.

These glasses come with a camera and an AI assistant that can answer questions about your surroundings or translate conversations in real time. The screen can show subtitles, maps, your Instagram feed, video calls, messages, and other media.

An electromyographic Neural Band reads muscle signals from gestures, and the glasses respond instantly, changing the screen or closing applications.

The device's firmware is clearly raw. It glitched several times just during the presentation. Zuckerberg spent almost two minutes on stage unsuccessfully trying to answer a video call ⤴️

Also, the Meta Ray-Ban Display is just a pair of glasses with a screen, not the full augmented reality experience many people hoped for. Meta is still working on a true AR device based on its Orion prototype.

However, the first reviews are positive. TechRadar editor Lance Ulanoff believes that Meta hasn't yet solved all form factor problems. Still, the novelty gives hope that AI glasses will eventually replace smartphones.

The price is $799. Sales start September 30 only in the U.S.

Would you wear such glasses?

😎 — Yes, I'll definitely buy them!
❤️ — Maybe, but cheaper
🔥 — No, phone is enough for me...
