New Apple Watch algorithms can alert users to high blood pressure, even though the watch itself doesn't have a blood pressure monitor, AI does all the work.

Since 2019, Apple has analyzed data from 100,000 participants' Apple Watch optical heart sensors to understand how blood vessels respond to heartbeats.
Using machine learning, the company created an algorithm that monitors heart rate variations to detect hypertension. In such cases, the watch sends a notification and recommends using a blood pressure monitor and consulting a doctor.
The technology was successfully tested in a study of 2,000 participants and has already been approved by the U.S. regulator.
🤩 Around 46% of people with hypertension don't even know they have it, as the condition often shows no obvious symptoms. The feature is available in 150 countries; users need to enable notification calibration and wait 30 days for data collection. The latest versions of iOS and watchOS are required, along with Apple Watch Series 9 or Ultra 2 and newer.
