This warning was raised by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong during open debates at the UN Security Council ⤴️

She points out that AI opens exceptional opportunities for progress in medicine, education, and peacekeeping. But without clear rules and reliable safety systems, technological advancement could destabilize society.

The threat also stems from the rapid growth of deepfakes and propaganda, as well as the increasing use of AI in military affairs.

"Decisions of life and death must never be delegated to machines," warns Wong.
