💅 AI Manicure in 20 Minutes

Canadian startup Umia has released a compact device for AI manicures. You can simply place your finger inside, and the built-in camera scans your nail's size and shape. After that, the machine applies three coats of gel polish and cures them.

Each nail takes about 1.5 minutes, and the entire process takes no more than 20 minutes.

Umia trained its AI on 120,000 nail images. The algorithm also learns from feedback after each manicure.

"Every nail is unique—the AI ensures the design fits perfectly to your shape. Over time it will recommend designs based on what you like—colours, patterns, styles," explains startup co-founder Mody Liu.

The device was recently unveiled at British Beauty Week and will soon be available in salons. The developers suggest that an AI manicure will cost about half as much as one done by a professional.
However, the AI manicure will not completely replace humans. The device can't remove old polish, file nails, or do cuticle care.
