🔎 How Will AI Develop Next Year? Predictions from Demis Hassabis

Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis said at the Axios AI+ Summit that the most important thing for AI right now is to "squeeze out" as much potential as possible from scaling: more data, more computing power, and more computation.

✅ However, the goal of AI development goes beyond just powerful language models. Hassabis highlights the next milestone as "world models," like Google's Genie 3. These are systems capable not just of processing text, but of modeling the physical world, understanding its dynamics, predicting events, and planning actions.

💻 It's in the coming year that we can expect rapid progress in these kinds of products. Hassabis believes they could radically expand AI's capabilities: from analyzing and synthesizing knowledge to controlling robots, modeling complex processes, decision-making, and planning.

💡 At the same time, Hassabis remains realistic. Even if scaling delivers results, achieving true AGI may still require one or two fundamental scientific breakthroughs—in areas such as AI models' memory, reasoning, reliability, and continuous learning.
