🎮 Sony Patents "AI Censorship" for Games
Sony Interactive Entertainment has patented an AI system that automatically modifies in-game content in real time according to user settings. It analyzes visuals and audio on the fly, muting profanity, hiding violence or nudity, cutting scenes, or replacing them with neutral alternatives—all without pauses or restarts.
Players can customize these filters themselves and adjust them during gameplay.
The main target audience for this solution is parents, young gamers, and streamers who need to avoid bans and demonetization. Sony is also building in cross-platform compatibility—this technology could potentially work outside of PlayStation as well.
This approach could change how AAA games are released: instead of multiple builds for different markets, there could be a single, flexible product. However, Sony acknowledges that this approach isn't universal. Games built around mature themes and shock content—like the upcoming GTA VI—would be hard to "soften" without losing their essence.
