👚 AI Replaces Models at Paris Couture Week
French designer Alexis Mabille showed a new collection at Paris's Lido cinema. Still, instead of physical looks, the audience watched an AI-generated catwalk created in collaboration with the Glor'IA studio. The collection was "presented" by digital versions of real models.
Reactions were mixed: some were impressed by the realism, while others experienced the uncanny valley effect caused by models gliding across the floor, unnaturally twitching pupils, and virtual spectators occasionally looking in various directions.
Fashion critic Amy Odell questioned whether garments not made by hand can be considered couture (one of couture's defining traits is a high level of craftsmanship).
Notably, the dresses haven't even been sewn yet, and the brand hasn't disclosed any order data. So it's still hard to assess the effectiveness of this approach.
