🦞 OpenClaw Creator Joins OpenAI

OpenAI has hired Peter Steinberger, the creator of the OpenClaw AI agent—the fastest-growing project in GitHub history. At the startup, he will focus on "next-generation personal agents," which OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says will become the foundation of the company's future products.

Steinberger believes agents will "eat" 80% of traditional apps, because "instead of dozens of interfaces, there will be just one."

⚡️ In Silicon Valley, a real chase began. Mark Zuckerberg invited him to Meta and reportedly spent a full week personally testing OpenClaw. He ultimately called Steinberger "eccentric, but brilliant." Rumor has it Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also called Peter personally.

What pushed Steinberger to accept Altman's offer was access to non-public, high-speed compute—something he compares to Thor's Hammer. OpenAI also promises to keep OpenClaw open source: the project will be developed under a non-profit foundation.

💰 Steinberger says plainly that his decision wasn't about money—although he has already built one successful business and could have turned OpenClaw into a massive company. He says he wants to make AI accessible to everyone.

"My next mission is to build an agent that even my mum can use," the developer admits.
