✖️ Scammers Use AI-Generated Pet Photos

Animal welfare groups and media outlets are reporting a new scam involving AI. Fraudsters find photos of pet dogs online, often from missing pet posts, and send the owner an AI-generated image showing the animal supposedly injured and lying in a veterinary clinic.

The rest follows a familiar script. A "police officer" or "doctor" says the pet was hit by a car and now needs surgery—and the owner has to send money urgently.

📱 California nonprofit Animal Compassion Team receives around 20 reports of such incidents every day.

ℹ️ With the rise of AI, scammers have been able to turn the exploitation of people's emotional vulnerability into something like an assembly line, explains Thomas Sinicki, head of a personal data protection company.

"In our new reality, you can no longer trust your eyes or ears. Treat any photo, video, or audio clip in an unsolicited message as potentially fake," he warns.

Have you encountered AI scammers?

🔥 — yes, unfortunately
🕊 — no, only the regular kind
