The mausoleum is a mosque located in Agra, India, on the banks of the Jamna River. It was built by order of Tamerlane's descendant, the padishah of the Baburid Empire, Shah Jahan, in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died giving birth to her fourteenth child. The Taj Mahal has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site: "the pearl of Muslim art in India and one of the universally recognized masterpieces of World Heritage."
