Synchronizing their display, a pair of male Goldie’s birds of paradise try to attract females. This is one of the bird of paradise species with the most limited home range, found on only two small islands off the far eastern end of Papua New Guinea. They are endangered because of habitat loss and their narrow home range. Birds of paradise are ambassadors for the conservation of the New Guinea region’s great forests, the largest remaining in the entire Asia-Pacific region and which are critical to global climate stability.
