Does a blue-ringed 🐙 make you feel 😱 or 😍??
It is true that the painless bite of this species releases a toxin that is very dangerous. But unlike some big squids (f.e. the humboldt squid), octopuses don't have an aggressive nature towards humans. So don't expect them to sit on the reef, just waiting for the next opportunity to bite a passing diver 😜 It is our behaviour that might trigger an attack. So here is some behavioral advice: (1) Since it probably tries to hide once you approach: don't chase it! (2) If it gives you a longer audience: keep respectful distance! (3) As for most wild animals: don't stress it with fast movements! (4) And finally: never ever touch a blue-ringed octopus! And now enjoy its beauty and don't be afraid. Mosquitos are much more dangerous 😉
