🍛 DINNER PLATE JELLYFISH 🍛

This hydrozoan jellyfish, Solmissus spps, commonly referred to as the Dinner Plate Jellyfish is found in deep waters (700-1000m/2300-3300ft) of Monterey Bay, California! It gets its common name from its flat shaped bell and grows to be approximately 20cm/8in in diameter!

What makes this jellyfish interesting is that it, unlike the majority of jellyfish species, actively hunts! It feeds on comb jellies (ctenophores), salps, copepods, doliolids and other jellyfish!
