Photographer Nicolas Reusens experienced a very special moment when he came face to face with this magical Hummingbird.
Since the pre-Hispanic era, hummingbirds have amazed human beings. Despite being one of the smallest known birds in the animal kingdom, they have attributes that help them survive and stand out from other winged species.
Thanks to their tetrachromatic vision, these birds have the ability to see colors that humans are not able to perceive. This is so because of an evolutionary bias, according to a study conducted by Mary Stoddard, a biologist at the National Academy of Sciences.
Given its size and dimensions, it is striking that this animal has a very high heart rate. In one minute, at rest, his heart can beat between 500 and 700 times per minute; while in active state, it reaches 1,200 times per minute.
They are the only winged animals that have the ability to fly in all directions: right, left, forward and backward. This is why they need frequent meals, which can exceed their body weight five times in one day.
