🫣 NOT THE JELLYFISH 🫣
Jellyfish, despite being ~90% water, are eaten by a range of different critters and are staples of the diets of some animals which you would least expect!
The Leatherback turtle 🐢 (Dermochelys coriacea) which is the largest of all turtle species, reaching 2m/6.5ft in length and 600kg/1300lbs in weight, feed almost exclusively on jellyfish!
It is thought that adult Leatherbacks eat around 330kg/727lbs(+/-210kg/462lbs) of jellyfish per day which is equivalent to 261 Lions Mane Jellyfish (Cyanea capillata)! That is an insane amount of jellyfish!
