Lenticular cloud over Mt Fuji
Such lens-shaped cloud formations form when fast-moving warm moist air sweeps over mountainous terrain.
When the air rises over the mountain, it cools. This causes excess water vapour to condense leading to the lens-shaped or saucer like cloud. On the leeward side of the mountain, the air sinks again, becoming warmer and drier causing the cloud to dissolve again.
