Megalopyge opercularis moth caterpillar.

The appearance of the caterpillar does not bode well. Her entire body is covered with long, thick hairs, which in themselves do not pose any danger, but under them they hide poisonous thorns, one touch of which is enough to get a strong burning, rash and severe pain. The caterpillar has been responsible for many human deaths, especially in southern Brazil. Its venom has been the subject of numerous medical studies. The species was first described by Francis Walker in 1855. Guinness World Records classified the Lonomia obliqua as the most venomous caterpillar in the world.
