American Coots use their lobed feet to paddle rapidly against the water while flapping their wings to maintain momentum.

These birds have large fleshy lobes running down the length of their toes, increasing the surface area with each step. As they run on water, the lobes fold out, aiding in pushing against the water’s surface.
