🐂 Yellowstone’s Wild Giants

Did you know that Yellowstone is the only place in the U.S. where bison have lived continuously since prehistoric times?

Key Facts:
• Current population: Approximately 4,800 to 5,800 bison live in Yellowstone (according to the National Park Service, 2024).
• Two main herds:
• Northern Herd
• Central Herd
• Yellowstone bison carry no cattle genes — they are among the last genetically pure bison in North America.
• In 1902, only 23 wild bison remained in the park. Thanks to conservation efforts, that number has grown to thousands — a powerful survival story.
