Snakes sense vibrations through their jaw and mid ear bone

Snakes do not have an external ear. However, they have one middle ear bone that connects the inner ear to the jaw. This enables snakes to sense vibrations in their surroundings very well, especially those in the ground. They also react to sound waves created by loud sounds that travel through the air.
