Рибалочка піймав здобич і проковтнув її в кенії
The pied kingfisher lives up to its royal name. Perched on a branch in Kenya, this one made sure its tiny catch was lifeless before swallowing it whole; a quick shake, a firm grip, and the meal is gone.
Kingfishers earned their name as the “kings of fishing”, their vibrant plumage and unmatched hunting skills gave them a regal reputation across cultures. The pied kingfisher is especially unique: unlike most of its relatives, it hovers mid-air like a helicopter, wings buzzing, before diving straight into the water with pinpoint accuracy.
And here’s the twist: not all kingfishers actually eat fish. Out of Africa’s 18 species, fewer than half regularly hunt them; the rest prefer insects, frogs, or even small reptiles.
