'We don’t always get it right the first day': Indonesian coffee chain Kopi Kenangan clocks first net profit of US$17m

"We had a lot of teh tarik and Thai tea, when we first opened in Malaysia. But our customers said our teh tarik is an embarrassement, so we took them out," says Kopi Kenangan's CEO and co-founder Edward Tirtanata.

Undeterred by setbacks in its early years, the coffee chain continued brewing up expansion plans, opening 1,300 outlets in just 8 years.

And it has tasted success - it turned in its first net profit of US$17 million in FY2025.
