Do you want to know which bird is singing outside your window? The free Merlin Bird ID app can help you with that. It recognizes the sounds of over 10,000 bird species worldwide. Available in multiple languages.

📱 How Does it Work?

Merlin works like Shazam, converting recorded sounds into spectrograms — visual representations of sound waves. AI algorithms identify the bird species after analyzing these “images” of sounds.

The data is sourced from eBird, the world’s largest bird observation database, containing millions of records on birds, their sounds, and photos. To work offline, you need to download a data pack.

Instructions

1️⃣ Download the app for Android / iOS.
2️⃣ Enter and verify your email.
3️⃣ Press “Sound” and record a birdsong.
