🐰 A Furry Robot That Can Feel
Casio has released a small AI-powered furry robot that has emotions and can bond with its owner.
The robot, named Moflin, looks like a hamster or rabbit without ears. Originally developed in collaboration with Japanese startup Vanguard Industries, it is now being manufactured and distributed by Casio. The robot won the Best of Innovation award at the CES 2021 show in Las Vegas.
"Moflins are a new breed of pets that live with people. They gently support their owners daily and are always by their side," — says the Cаѕio website.
The idea is that this robot could become a real pet alternative for those who, for some reason, can not keep animals at home.
How it works
➡️ Artificial intelligence built into the mini-robot system can self-learn, gradually expanding the range of reactions. Over time, it learns to recognize the person who interacts with it the most through their voice and touch.
➡️ In about 50 days, the AI pet will start responding with unique cooing sounds and movements, choosing from 4 million combinations to simulate a close bond.
➡️ When treated well — with stroking and affectionate words — Moflin becomes happy and calm. If ignored, it can become anxious and sad. You can track the robot's "emotional state" and get recommendations on how to improve it via an app.
➡️ The kit comes with a "crib" that also serves as a USB charger. Its battery life is 5 hours.
➡️ The AI robot will go on sale on November 7 in Japan for $400.
