📸 AI Cameras Catch Drunk Drivers

More than 270,000 people die in traffic accidents caused by drunk drivers every year—about a third of all road fatalities worldwide. Drunk drivers are six times more likely to be involved in fatal car crashes. The use of artificial intelligence-based technology in the roads is on the rise, and this, hopefully, will help save lives.

🚗 How Does It Work?

Heads-Up cameras from Australian company Acusensus use AI to analyze drivers' behavior on the road, detecting signs of drunkenness or being on drugs.

The mobile devices capture images of passing vehicles using multiple cameras and an infrared flash, which are then analyzed by AI software. The algorithms assess speeding, car trajectory and lane control, and immediately alert the police about potentially dangerous drivers.

⚠️ Such cameras have recently been installed in several regions of the UK. This is the world's first real-life example of using AI cameras to catch people under the influence of drugs and alcohol behind the wheel.

In several countries, Acusensus cameras are already helping police flag drivers using cell phones on the go and not wearing seatbelts.

🛡 Preventing Tragedy

AI-powered cameras allow traffic authorities to monitor much larger stretches of road and react much faster to potentially dangerous situations.

"We are all safer if we can detect impairment before it causes an incident that could ruin lives," says Acusensus UK director Geoff Collins.
