💰 Nvidia Invested More Than Amazon and Microsoft in AI Startups

GPU maker Nvidia has invested over $1 billion in AI startups in 2024, 13% more than in 2023. The chip giant participated in 50 funding rounds for AI companies, with another 24 large deals led by its corporate Nventures VC fund.

As a result, Nvidia surpassed Amazon and Microsoft, which invested in less than 40 funding rounds each. Google remains the leader in writing large checks for AI companies, having participated in almost 120 venture deals in 2024.

According to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, the company backs startups that are "game changers and market makers." These are often direct competitors like OpenAI and xAI, for example. So, Nvidia is "keeping eggs in different baskets" and potentially gaining more access to AI technology.
"We invest in these companies because they are incredible at what they do. These are some of the best minds in the world," Huang explains.

Where has Nvidia invested the most?

🔵 Generative AI: OpenAI, xAI, Mistral AI, Perplexity AI;
🔵 AI for businesses: Scale AI, Cohere, Crusoe, Poolside;
🔵 Robots and autonomous vehicles: Wayve, Figure AI, Waabi.

Nvidia also invests in medical technology, gamedev, logistics, and other industries.

Nvidia's monopoly in the AI chip market has made it the main beneficiary of the AI boom. Now, Nvidia is the second (after Apple) most expensive company in the world, with a valuation of $3.36 trillion. Over the year, its shares have risen by almost 2.5 times.
