📺 "2073" — What Will the World Look Like After an AI Catastrophe?

Humans live underground and survive on scraps of garbage, while totalitarianism and endless war occur on the surface. It might sound like a cliché post-apocalyptic movie, but the documentary footage in "2073" makes it feel truly atmospheric and eerily realistic.

The main question posed by Oscar-winning director Asif Kapadia to the audience: Can we still prevent the catastrophe?

☢️ Plot:

At the story's heart is a mute woman who survived "that fateful day." Every morning, she ventures to the surface to scavenge for anything useful amidst mountains of trash. But there, she faces AI drones and soldiers of the new totalitarian U.S. government. They aim to "re-educate" the rebels hiding in underground catacombs and repurpose them for the capitalist world.

The protagonist tries to piece together the chain of events that led to the catastrophe. In her mind, she travels back to the present day, where she finds numerous warning signs of the impending apocalypse: economic crises, pandemics, the rise of dictatorships around the globe, humanity's reckless treatment of nature, and most importantly, the technological race in AI development that ultimately led to disaster.

The film "2073" is inspired by the 1962 French movie "La Jetée." In it, humanity lives underground due to the aftermath of World War III and attempts to use time travel to prevent the tragedy. This plot also served as the basis for the 1995 film "12 Monkeys" starring Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt.

Will you watch "2073"?

❤️ — yes, I love sci-fi
