🎮 Roblox Introduces GenAI for 3D Modeling

Roblox has introduced Cube 3D, its open-source AI model for generating 3D models directly in-game from text prompts.

Currently, Cube can only create 3D meshes with textures. Still, the behavior of objects must be manually set up in the editor (for example, to make a car drive or a helicopter fly). In the future, users will be able to create "4D models": objects with AI-built logic, too.

Developers plan to add support for generating models from images as well. Additionally, in the coming months, Roblox will introduce tools for converting voice to text and vice versa. This will allow players to create interactive NPCs capable of voice communication and adapt their responses depending on context.

Roblox is a popular online gaming platform with millions of daily users. It lets people play thousands of games created by other users and create their own using an easy-to-use tool called Roblox Studio and a simple programming language called LuaU. Most Roblox players are kids and teens, and the platform offers many games to explore.

Roblox developers have long viewed AI as essential to unleashing players' creativity. According to Roblox CEO David Baszucki, over 200 different AI models are working "behind the scenes" of the platform.

"AI accelerates all of us, whether we're an artist, a 3D designer, or just someone with an idea. It helps us be better creators, just like Photoshop helped people who used to paint with oil be better creators," Baszucki believes.

But even more important is the general trend: millions of children will soon interact daily with gaming AI on Roblox. For "Generation Alpha," prompting and working with AI will become commonplace—just as the internet became a part of life for those who grew up in the 2000s.
