👐 Codex: OpenAI's Cloud AI-Coder
OpenAI has added its new AI coding agent Codex to ChatGPT. It handles almost the entire range of developer tasks: writing code, tests, and documentation, answering questions about the program, and performing optimization and refactoring.
"Software engineering is changing. And by the end of 2025 it's going to look fundamentally different," says Greg Brockman, the president of OpenAI.
Codex Features:
🔜 The agent accesses code via Git and runs the program in an isolated sandbox. It can work on several tasks at the same time.
🔜 It runs on the codex-1 model, built on o3. Codex-1 scores at the o3-high level on the SWE-Bench Verified test, and on real internal tasks at OpenAI, it completes 75% of challenges (compared to 70% by o3-high and 11% by o1-high). Startup engineers use Codex as part of their daily toolkit.
🔜 Enhanced security: The agent will refuse to work on malicious software, and its Internet access is disabled when running code.
💰 Access to Codex will start rolling out today for Pro subscribers ($200/month), Enterprise, and Team users. Plus-tier subscribers and students will get to try the agent later.
