Blogger and developer Farza Majeed created an AI basketball coach based on Gemini 2.5 Pro.
The AI model counts the number of shots and successful baskets from uploaded videos and provides professional, personalized advice.
Additionally, the model analyzes the quality of execution (e.g., shot strength). For visualizing the counter and advice, the blogger used the Python library OpenCV through Cursor.
According to Majeed, this approach can easily be adapted to other sports and exercises where sounds like hits or similar interactions are present. He believes the service could generate up to a million dollars a year—with the right TikTok campaign.
"If anyone wants to build it as an efficient real-time iOS app with feedback in headphones, I'll be your first user at $39 a month. Can expand to soccer, tennis, pickleball, whatever," writes Farza Majeed.
