The mysterious band The Velvet Sundown released three albums in just five weeks, with the title track from their debut record Dust on the Wind surpassing over a million streams on Spotify ⤴️
The "members" of the band—Gabe Farrow, Lenny West, Milo Raines, and "Rio" Del Mar—seemingly appeared out of nowhere. There's no trace of their presence online before this, and all the band's photos are carelessly AI-generated.
After the buzz on social media, a "spokesperson" of The Velvet Sundown, under the pseudonym Andrew Frelon, revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that it was all "trolling and marketing," and that he had generated the band using the Personas feature in Suno.
"We live in a world now where things that are fake have sometimes even more impact than things that are real. And that's messed up, but that's the reality that we face now," Frelon stated.
